Diplomatic Uproar: Russia Expels Six British Diplomats Amid Spying Allegations
Russia's FSB security service has revoked the accreditation of six British diplomats in Moscow, accusing them of spying and sabotage, signaling Kremlin's anger at London's alleged role in helping Ukraine. Britain has denied the baseless accusations, calling it a retaliatory move after the UK expelled a Russian defense attache earlier.
Russia's FSB security service announced on Friday that it had revoked the accreditation of six British diplomats in Moscow, citing allegations of espionage and sabotage. This action underscores the Kremlin's frustration with London's perceived involvement in aiding Ukraine. British authorities have dismissed the accusations as unfounded and retaliatory.
The announcement came just hours before British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House. The meeting was viewed as crucial in securing approval for Kyiv to employ long-range missiles against Russian targets. Despite the context, both leaders refrained from addressing long-range missiles in their comments.
President Vladimir Putin warned that Western approval for Ukraine to strike Russian territory with long-range missiles would shift the conflict's nature. Concurrently, the West views Iran's alleged delivery of ballistic missiles to Russia as a major escalation. The FSB claims it has documents showing British diplomats fomenting political and military tensions against Russia.
