SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday assured justice to the family members of accused Mangesh Yadav, who was allegedly killed by the STF in an encounter on September 5.

Akhilesh gave the assurance after Mangesh's family members met him at the Samajwadi Party's headquarters and shared their grief. The party's statement alleged that Mangesh was picked up from his home by the police and killed in a fake encounter. The family informed Akhilesh about their harassment by the police.

The SP statement highlighted a robbery in Sultanpur on August 28, where three other accused were arrested, and one surrendered. The police claim Mangesh was killed during an encounter, but his family disputes this, alleging he was murdered in custody. The statement further criticized the police's methods and accused them of targeting minorities.

UP Director General of Police Prashant Kumar rejected the allegations, asserting that the state police follow strict guidelines and have not faced any criticism from constitutional bodies. This incident has led to a controversy with Akhilesh accusing the BJP government of staging fake encounters based on caste and religion.
