In a tragic incident, two Army personnel, including a junior commissioned officer, lost their lives, and two others were injured during a confrontation with terrorists in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district, according to security officials.
The gunbattle erupted when a joint team of Army and police initiated a cordon-and-search operation in the Naidgham area based on intelligence inputs. Officials stated that a fierce exchange of fire ensued between the security forces and terrorists who were hiding in the Pingnal Dugadda forest area.
Four Army personnel sustained injuries in the firefight, with JCO Naib Subedar Vipan Kumar and Sepoy Arvind Singh succumbing to their wounds later. The injured were evacuated to an Army hospital for further treatment. This encounter follows a successful operation where two Pakistani terrorists were neutralized in Udhampur district.
