The Assam Cabinet on Friday announced substantial amendments to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for minor case withdrawals in subordinate courts, intending to decongest jails by releasing undertrial prisoners with minor offenses, said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Additionally, a significant development deal was approved with Dassault Systems Private Ltd to establish a Centre of Excellence in aerospace, defence, automotive, and electric vehicle industries. The project will see a combined investment of Rs 240 crore, with Dassault contributing the major share.

Moreover, the Cabinet sanctioned the procurement of 100 MW wind solar hybrid power from NTPC to address peak-hour supply shortages, endorsed a special recruitment drive for contractual teachers, extended benefits under the 'Orunodoi' scheme, and allocated funds for revamping the Assam State Zoo.
