Uttar Pradesh minister Kapil Dev Aggarwal surrendered before a local court on Friday following a non-bailable warrant issued against him concerning a Model Code of Conduct violation.
The special MP/MLA court also issued a non-bailable warrant against Anil Kumar, another minister, for failing to appear regarding a similar poll code violation case.
Special Judge Devendra Singh Fauzdar recalled the warrant issued on September 4 and ordered Aggarwal's release after he provided two sureties of Rs 25,000 each. Aggarwal is the BJP MLA from Muzaffarnagar and the minister of state (independent charge) for vocational education and skill development.
Prosecutor Niraj Singh stated that a case was filed against Aggarwal and others for violating the Model Code of Conduct, the Epidemic Diseases Act, and disaster management norms for conducting unauthorized election meetings on January 11, 2022. Aggarwal's lawyer Vinod Kumar Gupta mentioned that after surrendering, the case was adjourned till September 27.
Similarly, a non-bailable warrant was issued against science and technology minister Anil Kumar for missing a court appearance in another poll code violation case. Kumar, representing the Purkazi constituency, is accused of organizing unauthorized election meetings in February 2022.
