The Supreme Court on Friday requested responses from both the Centre and the Uttarakhand government concerning a plea from a young girl. Her mother, who worked at a hospital, was allegedly raped and killed, prompting the girl to seek protective guidelines for hospital staff nationwide.
Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, along with Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, heard the plea, highlighting delays and procedural lapses by the Uttarakhand Police in lodging an FIR. The plea calls for centralized alerts when women go missing and can't be located promptly.
The girl also demands an independent investigation into her mother's death, arguing that the local police's findings are unreliable. Her mother disappeared on July 30, and her decomposed body was found on August 8. An FIR was filed on August 14, allegedly under media and public pressure.
