The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has mandated uniform rates for various activities at cremation grounds under its jurisdiction, according to an official order released recently. This directive comes in response to complaints about some crematoriums overcharging patrons.

The revised rates include Rs 700 per quintal for fuel wood, Rs 1500 for CNG cremation, Rs 500 for electric cremation, Rs 500 for 'pandit sanskar' (last rites), Rs 350 for 'asthi' collection (ash collection), Rs 300 for child burial, and Rs 150 for maintenance charges. Additionally, the hearse van service within the MCD jurisdiction is capped at Rs 500, and beyond it at Rs 800.

Officials confirmed that these revised rates aim to bring uniformity post the unification of previous municipal corporations. The MCD has ensured compliance by installing rate boards outside each crematorium and directing NGOs in charge of operations to strictly adhere to the new pricing structure.
