Warning of merciless action against those taking the law into their own hands, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed on Friday that the situation in violence-hit Nagamangala town is peaceful and an inquiry is underway.

Parameshwara stated that the government will consider compensating those whose livelihoods were affected by the incident. He criticized opposition parties for politicizing the episode.

Clashes erupted between two groups during a Ganesha idol immersion procession in Mandya district. Following the clash, mobs rampaged, targeting shops and vehicles, leading to tension. A police inspector has been suspended for altering the procession route, which contributed to the chaos.

Parameshwara mentioned that an inquiry against the Deputy Superintendent of Police and other officials is ongoing, with senior officials asked to provide a factual report for further actions.

The situation is now under control, with senior police officials monitoring the area to prevent further unrest. A peace meeting is being held to ensure stability.

In response to questions about premeditated violence, Parameshwara noted that a probe has been ordered, and further clarity will come once the report is submitted.

Reiterating a zero-tolerance stance, Parameshwara emphasized that strict action will be taken against anyone disrupting law and order, regardless of the festival or occasion.

Regarding compensation for affected shop owners, he said rules will guide the government's decision once the report is reviewed.

Rejecting allegations of political appeasement, Parameshwara asserted his responsibility as Home Minister and dismissed calls for his resignation based on twisted remarks.

He concluded by noting that 52 arrests have been made and vowed to continue working responsibly to maintain peace and order.
