Russia Revokes Diplomatic Accreditations for UK Officials Amid Espionage Allegations
Russia's FSB security service has revoked the accreditation of six British diplomats in Moscow, alleging espionage and sabotage activities. The move is a response to what it deems as 'unfriendly steps' by London. Photographs of the diplomats were broadcast on Russian state TV, and further expulsions are threatened.
Russia's FSB security service announced on Friday that it had revoked the accreditation of six British diplomats stationed in Moscow, citing espionage and sabotage activities. This action aligns with escalating tensions between Russia and Western nations.
According to the FSB, a British foreign office department in London responsible for Eastern Europe and Central Asia was allegedly coordinating efforts to destabilize the political and military situation in Russia, particularly in relation to its ongoing conflict with Ukraine. The FSB claims this department's goal was to ensure Russia's strategic defeat.
The FSB has provided documents to support its allegations and has warned that further British diplomats could face similar actions if they are found engaging in analogous activities. Russian state media identified and broadcasted images of the six expelled diplomats. Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry, in collaboration with the FSB, has accused the British embassy in Moscow of violating diplomatic norms and committing deliberate acts harmful to the Russian populace.
