The U.S. State Department has placed sanctions on a Chinese research institute and several companies, accusing them of supplying Pakistan's ballistic missile program. The targeted entities include Beijing Research Institute of Automation for Machine Building Industry, Hubei Huachangda Intelligent Equipment Co, Universal Enterprise, and Xi'an Longde Technology Development Co, as well as Pakistan-based Innovative Equipment.

These sanctions are part of a broader effort to curb the spread of missile technology. Department spokesperson Matthew Miller indicated that the Beijing institute had collaborated with Pakistan on equipment for testing rocket motors for the Shaheen-3 and Ababeel missile systems. The move follows similar sanctions placed on three China-based companies in October 2023.

China's embassy in Washington criticized the sanctions, calling them unjustified and a violation of international law. Spokesperson Liu Pengyu asserted that China would protect the rights and interests of its companies and individuals. Pakistan's embassy did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
