In a crucial report presented to the Jharkhand High Court, the central government revealed the presence of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the state. The affidavit, submitted by undersecretary Pratap Singh Rawat, indicated that these immigrants entered Jharkhand through the Sahebgunj and Pakur districts.
The document also raised issues surrounding the transfer of tribal lands to Muslims via gift deeds, and a noticeable decline in the tribal population due to high conversion rates and low birth rates among them. Additionally, the outward migration of tribals from the Santhal Parganas further contributed to the reduced indigenous population.
A significant increase in madrasas in the Sahebgunj and Pakur areas was also noted, with the language commonality easing the immigrants' integration. The petitioners, Soma Oraon and Daniel Danish, have filed PILs concerning the conversion of tribals and the illegal immigration of Bangladeshis respectively. The next court hearing is scheduled for September 17.
