On Thursday, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of transforming Uttar Pradesh into the 'capital of fake encounters,' where police stage deliberate murders as justified encounters.
Addressing a gathering in Lucknow, Yadav alleged that the recent police encounter deaths, including that of crime suspect Mangesh Yadav, were orchestrated attacks against backward classes, Dalits, and minorities. He pointed to the Rs 1.5-crore robbery suspect's killing as an example of this alleged malpractice.
In response, Uttar Pradesh's Director General of Police Prashant Kumar and Prison Minister Dara Singh Chauhan staunchly denied the allegations. They emphasized the state's commitment to fair and transparent policing, dismissing Yadav's statements as politically motivated and unfounded.
