Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar on Thursday refuted allegations that the state police are 'trigger-happy'. He asserted that the force strictly adheres to guidelines and has not faced criticism from constitutional bodies.

The remarks were made following the recent encounter of Mangesh Yadav, accused in a Rs 1.5-crore jewellery heist in Sultanpur district. The encounter has ignited controversy, with former CM Akhilesh Yadav accusing the ruling BJP of staging fake encounters that target individuals based on caste and religion.

Responding to these allegations during a press conference, Kumar stated, 'There is no response to political claims. I outright rebut such allegations. No action is taken considering the caste or community of a criminal. The police acted only after thoroughly examining the evidence, ensuring fair and transparent actions.'
