The Indian Army contingent has departed for the 5th edition of the India-Oman Joint Military Exercise, AL NAJAH, scheduled to take place from 13th to 26th September 2024 at the Rabkoot Training Area in Salalah, Oman. Held biennially since 2015, the exercise alternates between India and Oman, with the previous edition conducted in Rajasthan, India.

The Indian Army, represented by 60 personnel from the Mechanised Infantry Regiment and other units, will join an equal-sized contingent from the Royal Army of Oman, represented by the Frontier Force. The primary aim of the joint exercise is to enhance the military capabilities of both nations to conduct counter-terrorism operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, with a focus on operations in desert environments.

Key tactical drills include joint planning, cordon and search operations, fighting in built-up areas, counter-drone strategies, and room interventions. The exercise will also feature simulated counter-terrorism missions to promote interoperability and cooperation.

The exercise will foster goodwill, camaraderie, and deepen defence ties between India and Oman, further strengthening their bilateral relations.
