Local dumpyard workers attempted to steal seized illicit liquor bottles ready for destruction by authorities, a police official revealed on Wednesday.

The bottles, later recovered and crushed, had been seized over the last two years and were lined up for disposal at a dumpyard.

'Some workers from nearby dumpyards tried to steal the liquor bottles meant for destruction, but police intervened and recovered them,' stated Guntur district additional superintendent of police Venkateshwar Rao.

Caught on camera, workers were seen rushing from three sides to steal the bottles as a backhoe was about to crush them. Despite the theft attempt, the offenders were let off with a warning, being a petty crime, added Rao.
