Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated SEMICON India 2024 at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh today. The three-day event, from 11 to 13 September, will showcase India's strategy to become a global semiconductor hub.

During his address, PM Modi highlighted India's role as the eighth country to host a global semiconductor event and emphasized that India is at the forefront of semiconductor innovation. He remarked, "In 21st-century India, the chips are never down," assuring global investors of the country's potential.

The Prime Minister drew parallels between the semiconductor industry and a diode, noting that while industries invest, the government provides stable policies and an ease of doing business. India is creating an ecosystem akin to an integrated circuit, supporting the semiconductor industry with talented designers, stable policies, and a growing workforce. He revealed that India is building a semiconductor workforce of 85,000 technicians, engineers, and R&D experts.

Modi also highlighted India’s comprehensive semiconductor program, offering 50% financial support for setting up fabs and packaging facilities. This effort has attracted investments worth over Rs 1.5 trillion, with more in the pipeline. The Prime Minister reiterated India's goal to produce semiconductor chips domestically, envisioning Indian-made chips in every device worldwide.

Discussing global cooperation, PM Modi referenced the "Silicon Diplomacy" era and noted that India is a key partner in the QUAD Semiconductor Supply Chain Initiative. He also highlighted agreements with Japan and Singapore, as well as growing collaboration with the United States.

Reflecting on India's rapid technological advancements, Modi noted the success of the Digital India Mission and the growth of mobile phone manufacturing. Today, India is the second-largest producer and exporter of mobile phones and aims to grow its electronics sector to $500 billion by the end of the decade, creating 6 million jobs.

In conclusion, PM Modi reaffirmed India’s focus on building resilient supply chains and using technology combined with democratic values to drive global solutions. He expressed confidence in India’s central role in the global semiconductor mission and extended his best wishes to all stakeholders involved.

The event was attended by key industry leaders, including the CEOs of Tata Electronics, NXP Semiconductors, Renesas, and IMEC, alongside Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath and Union IT Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw.
