Four individuals between the ages of 25 and 30 were found dead near Rukka dam on the outskirts of Ranchi, Jharkhand, police officials reported Wednesday.

The bodies were discovered at approximately 11 pm on Tuesday near the dam, falling under the jurisdiction of the Ranchi Sadar Police Station. Initial investigations suggest that the four succumbed to a lightning strike while fishing in the area.

Following alerts from the family members, police teams arrived at the scene to recover the bodies. These have since been sent for post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death. 'Prima facie evidence indicates a lightning strike,' confirmed Sadar Police Station in-charge Kuldeep Kumar to PTI. The victims, identified as Sohaib, Sahid Nurullah, Md Asif, and Md Maqsood, had left their homes around 10 am on the day of the incident.

Relatives began their search at 9 pm after the men failed to return home, as per local accounts.
