The situation in Manipur remained tense but under control on Wednesday as students clashed with security forces during a march to Raj Bhavan, according to police reports. A curfew imposed in Imphal on Tuesday remained in effect, and additional security forces have been deployed with frequent patrols to forestall any untoward incidents, noted a senior police officer. 'The situation remains tense but under control,' he stated.

The escalation began on Tuesday afternoon when students attempted to march towards Raj Bhavan to demand the dismissal of the state's Director General of Police (DGP) and security advisor. Police resorted to firing tear gas shells to disperse the stone-throwing students in Khwairamband and Kakwa Naorem Leikai areas.

More than 55 students were reportedly injured in the clashes and were admitted to RIMS hospital. A statement from Raj Bhavan late Tuesday night confirmed that student representatives submitted a memorandum to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, who assured them that he would take appropriate steps to address their concerns. Meanwhile, police continued search operations and area dominance exercises in Kangpokpi district, recovering arms and explosives.
