U.S. officials are set to engage with Bangladesh's interim government, headed by Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus, to assess how the United States can aid the country's economic and developmental progress, according to statements from the U.S. State and Treasury departments.

Donald Lu, the assistant secretary for South Asia, will be a key member of the U.S. delegation meeting with the interim government. Lu is also scheduled to visit India as part of his Sept. 10-16 trip. The delegation will also comprise representatives from the Treasury, USAID, and the U.S. Trade Representative's office.

A U.S. Treasury spokesperson mentioned that high-level discussions are slated with prominent interim government figures, including Yunus, as well as foreign affairs adviser Mohammad Touhid Hossain, finance and commerce adviser Salehuddin Ahmed, and Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan Mansur. The U.S. hopes reforms can mitigate Bangladesh's economic vulnerabilities and spur growth. In India, Lu and Jedidiah Royal will deliberate on defense cooperation and enhancing U.S.-India collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region.
