Congress MP from Inner Manipur, A Bimol Akoijam, has issued a poignant plea to Home Minister Amit Shah, decrying the 'unprecedented violent crisis' that has engulfed Manipur. Akoijam's letter calls for immediate corrective measures to ensure decisive action by security forces and urges a thorough investigation into alleged illegal activities exacerbating the turmoil.
Akoijam highlighted the severe humanitarian impact, recalling the tragic memories of India's partition in 1947. He noted that the prolonged violence has led to the loss of hundreds of lives and rendered approximately 60,000 people homeless, many of whom currently languish in deplorable conditions in relief camps.
Moreover, Akoijam urged the government to reject exclusivist identity politics and commit to administrative reforms that promote effective and fair delivery of public services. He also called for urgent fiscal relief measures to revive Manipur's devastated economy. The MP's appeal comes as the state grapples with escalated violence, prompting internet shutdowns and curfews to curb further unrest.
