Social rights activists under the banner of Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch on Tuesday organized a dharna outside Raj Bhavan, pressing the Hemant Soren government to uphold its commitments.

The demands include the cancellation of the land bank and the implementation of the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, or PESA Act, in the state.

According to the activists, the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance had pledged to address several public issues in their 2019 manifesto. Despite several actions taken over the past five years, many crucial promises remain unrealized, they pointed out.

An activist, Birsa Hembrom, highlighted that approximately 22 lakh acres of non-cultivated and community land were added to the land bank by the previous BJP government. "The JMM had assured to abolish this land bank but has remained silent on the matter," he stated.

Belgian-born economist Jean Dreze noted that the ruling parties had vowed to release undertrial tribal and dalit prisoners incarcerated in false cases, but no steps have been taken in this direction.

Social and political activist Yogendra Yadav also joined the protest, extending his support to the cause.
