Western Allies Condemn Iran-Russia Missile Transfers, Sanction Iran Air
France, Germany and Britain denounce Iran's transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia, labeling it a threat to European security. They plan to impose sanctions on Iran Air and cancel bilateral air services agreements. The U.S. also announced sanctions following similar revelations by Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
The governments of France, Germany, and Britain have strongly condemned Iran's transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia, the German Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday. In their joint statement, the countries described the act as a serious escalation and a direct threat to European security.
The countries will take immediate steps to impose sanctions on Iran Air and cancel bilateral air services agreements with Iran. They called on Iran to stop its support for Russia in the war against Ukraine immediately.
The announcement follows U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken's statement that Iran had provided ballistic missiles to Russia, which could be employed in Ukraine in the coming weeks. During his visit to Britain, Blinken also indicated that the U.S. would impose new sanctions, including targeting Iran Air.
