Cape Town Advances Title Deed Distribution, Empowering Thousands of Residents

The City of Cape Town has made notable strides in delivering title deeds to qualifying residents, with approximately 12,000 deeds still awaiting distribution. This was highlighted during a recent handover ceremony in Elsies River, where MEC for Human Settlements, Carl Pophaim, emphasized the city's commitment to empowering residents through home ownership.

Pophaim acknowledged the progress made by the City’s Human Settlements Directorate, stating, "The city is making significant progress towards reaching this goal, one title deed at a time. Over recent months, we have delivered title deeds across various communities, promoting home ownership and sustainable development."

The programme aims to provide security of tenure to residents, ensuring they have legal ownership of their homes. The city is also exploring innovative ways to accelerate this process and reach more residents in the coming weeks.

For residents who believe they or their family members are eligible for a title deed, the process is simple. They are encouraged to keep key documents on hand, including identification, marriage certificates, and in the case of a death, a letter of authority and death certificate. Agents working in the area will assist in the process, and verification can be done by contacting the Human Settlements Directorate.
