The Supreme Court expressed concerns on Monday over the absence of a crucial document needed for a postmortem in the RG Kar Medical College rape-murder case in Kolkata and directed the CBI to investigate.

In another ruling, the SC stated that an accused in custody is entitled to seek anticipatory bail for other matters, provided they have not been arrested for that alleged offence.

The court also ordered Maharashtra authorities to deliver ''peaceful and vacant'' possession of over 24 acres to an individual whose land had been illegally occupied for more than six decades.

Moreover, the SC stayed an Allahabad High Court order, which had instructed the Uttar Pradesh government to prepare a new selection list for appointing 69,000 assistant teachers.

The SC also reprimanded the Uttar Pradesh government for making a senior IAS officer a ''scapegoat'' over misinformation regarding the remission of convicts' sentences during the model code of conduct period.

Additionally, the SC agreed to consider a plea from Congress MP Shashi Tharoor against a Delhi High Court decision that denied quashing defamation proceedings linked to his comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
