Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena has ordered a thorough investigation by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) into allegations of corruption and misuse of nearly Rs 80 crore in public funds by the Public Works Department (PWD) during desilting projects in the Palam area, officials from Raj Niwas announced on Monday.

The AAP administration and the PWD have not yet responded to these charges. A complaint, dated August 11 and addressed to the Lt Governor, claims serious irregularities and corrupt practices, including financial mismanagement and disregard for tender norms, in desilting work on Southwest Road-I and Southwest Road-II Divisions. It alleges undue favoritism towards a single contractor, resulting in significant financial losses for the government.

The principal secretary to the Lt Governor has communicated Saxena's orders to the Chief Secretary. Highlighting the severity and scale of the alleged misconduct, supported by substantial proof, the Lt Governor emphasized the need for an in-depth ACB investigation. An action taken report is requested urgently. The complaint also mentions double payments, fabricated work, tender rule violations, manual scavenging facilitation, and obstruction of RTI requests, spanning four years.
