A 13-year-old girl from Ranchi was allegedly trafficked to Lucknow on a truck and was repeatedly raped by its driver before being abandoned on a roadside, according to police on Monday.

Two individuals were arrested after a case was registered at the Tamar police station in Ranchi on Sunday.

The girl's family reported her missing when she did not return from school on August 16. She was reportedly taken to the Bundu bus stand by a known youth and later transported to Patna by another youth, said Roshan Kumar, in-charge of Tamar police station.

"The second youth left her in a truck in Patna and fled. The truck driver allegedly raped her and left her on a roadside in Lucknow," he said, quoting the girl's statement.

Authorities arrested the two youths based on the FIR. There are several inconsistencies in her account, and we are working to resolve them," said Kumar.

The case was filed under sections related to rape, human trafficking, and the POCSO Act. Deputy Superintendent of Police Rati Bhan Singh stated, "We have started an investigation and are verifying the claims made by the victim. A medical examination of the girl is ongoing."

Child rights activist Baidyanath Kumar alleged the girl was "sold" to the truck driver in Patna. She was located by the local police in Lucknow on August 20 and handed over to Rajkiya Balika Griha without registering an FIR.

The girl was brought to Tamar from Lucknow on September 1. Her parents initially hesitated to file a report on her ordeal but eventually agreed, leading to the FIR on Sunday.
