The Supreme Court is set to review the case of a junior doctor's murder and alleged rape at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. The hearing, scheduled for Monday, is being overseen by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has accused the West Bengal government of significant non-cooperation in providing logistical support to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which has been assigned to ensure security at the hospital. This accusation follows alleged non-compliance labeled as 'symptomatic of a systemic malaise.'
In response, the Supreme Court has issued comprehensive directives to ensure the safety of medical professionals while urging protesting doctors to return to work. Following a significant delay in the investigation, the Calcutta High Court has assigned the probe to the CBI, amid widespread national protests.
