A man in Barwa Patti was allegedly forced to 'sell' his three-year-old son to secure his wife and newborn's release from a private hospital after he failed to pay the fee, officials stated.

The incident caused significant public outrage, prompting immediate action from authorities. Five individuals were arrested on Saturday, including the couple who took the child.

Harish Patel, a daily wage worker, had admitted his wife for delivery, resulting in their sixth child. Unable to pay the hospital fee, Patel was compelled to sell his three-year-old son via a fraudulent adoption deed for a few thousand rupees, police reported.

Upon discovering the incident, police launched an investigation, leading to the arrests of Amresh Yadav (middleman), 'adoptive parents' Bhola Yadav and Kalawati, fake doctor Tara Kushwaha, and hospital helper Suganti. Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Mishra confirmed that the child was safely rescued and returned to his parents.

A police constable who neglected to act in the case has been reassigned to police lines.
