The police have formally lodged two FIRs against a BJP worker, Vijay Tripathi, and other suspects in Thane, Maharashtra. The charges include accusations of outraging a woman's modesty and making casteist remarks, an official confirmed on Friday.
The incidents reportedly took place during a Ganesh Chaturthi festival preparation meeting held at a local temple. According to complaints filed by a woman and a man, the accused entered the temple wearing footwear and allegedly touched the woman inappropriately when she objected, the official stated.
Tripathi faces further allegations of verbally abusing a man and making discriminatory caste remarks during the same meeting. Another case involves former corporator and Shiv Sena leader Vikas Repale, although he claims his name was dragged in owing to a previous rivalry.
