Rising Rape Cases Among Tribal Girls in Odisha: A Grim Reality

In a disturbing revelation, 572 tribal girl students and women have fallen victim to rape in Odisha over the past five years. This shocking data was presented by SC-ST Development Minister Nityananda Gond to the state Assembly on Friday.
In a written response to a query from Congress legislator Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Gond disclosed that these incidents occurred under the enforcement of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. This legislation aims to prevent atrocities against members of these communities.
Out of the 572 reported rape cases, trials have been concluded in 32 instances, while 509 cases have seen chargesheets filed. Gond further mentioned that 31 cases are currently under investigation, shedding light on the ongoing struggle for justice.
