Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy urged Western allies on Friday to ignore Moscow's so-called 'red lines' and allow Kyiv to use long-range weapons for strikes on Russian territory. This plea came as Washington pledged an additional $250 million in weaponry to bolster Kyiv's defenses. Appearing for the first time at the regular U.S.-hosted gathering of Ukraine's allies at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, Zelenskiy presented long-range strike options as crucial for pressuring Russia to end its 2-1/2-year-old invasion.

Speaking at a critical juncture, Zelenskiy highlighted Ukraine's surprise offensive into Russia's Kursk region, explaining that the ability to strike Russian soil would incentivize Moscow to seek peace. 'We need to have this long-range capability not only within occupied Ukraine but also on Russian territory, yes, so that Russia is motivated to seek peace,' Zelenskiy said.

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin noted Ukraine's efforts to gain a battlefield advantage, referencing the Kursk offensive. 'The Kremlin's army of aggression is now on the defensive on its own turf,' he stated. Despite this, Austin emphasized the broader Western initiative to support Ukraine's campaign against Russian forces, announcing another $250 million in security assistance. He detailed the immense toll on Russian forces and operations, underlining the sustained commitment to Ukraine's defense needs as the war continues.
