The brutality came to public notice when a video of the incident, shot by unidentified onlookers, went viral on social media, stated City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Om Prakash Mishra from Kotwali Area.

''Accused Lokesh pledged to marry the victim, made her drink alcohol, and then raped her on Wednesday. Passersby captured the crime on video instead of intervening. Lokesh fled the scene. The woman lodged a complaint after regaining sobriety, leading to Lokesh's arrest,'' Mishra confirmed.
