In a firm stance against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, BJD president Naveen Patnaik on Thursday expressed deep concerns over the growing sense of insecurity among the minority communities in Odisha.

Patnaik, a five-time former chief minister, highlighted Odisha's legacy of harmony and peace, criticizing recent communal disturbances in the state. He stressed that the BJD would resolutely oppose the bill if it is tabled in Parliament.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which aims to modernize the registration process for Waqf properties via a centralized portal, is currently under review by a joint parliamentary committee. Patnaik's comments come in light of his recent interactions with minority community members who voiced their apprehensions about the bill.
