Senior Akali leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia appeared before the Akal Takht on Thursday, submitting his clarification to the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs.

This comes in the wake of the Akal Takht's recent declaration of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal as 'tankhaiya'—guilty of religious misconduct—for the actions of his party and the government from 2007 to 2017. Majithia, who was a minister in the erstwhile Akali government, provided a written clarification to the Jathedar's personal assistant.

The controversy traces back to a series of incidents during the Akali Dal's tenure, including the 2015 sacrilege events in Faridkot and a 2007 blasphemy case involving Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. Besides Majithia, other former Akali ministers also submitted their written explanations to the Akal Takht.
