Days after the gruesome discovery of a woman and her toddler daughter's bodies in Maharashtra's Palghar district, police have detained three suspects, officials disclosed.

The victims, identified as Sushmita Pravin Dawre, 22, and her young daughter, were found in Savre village's stream on September 2, both allegedly murdered.

District Superintendent of Police Balasaheb Patil revealed that the woman was strangled, her body weighed down with stones in plastic bags, and dumped. Her daughter was also found dead nearby. Suspects Sandeep Ramji Dawre, Suman alias Saku Sadhu Karbat, and Hari Rama Gowari have been arrested under sections for murder and destruction of evidence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Investigations pointed to familial discord over property leading to this heinous crime, with the victim reportedly being the fifth wife of Dawre's brother. An elaborate plan was hatched by Dawre and Karbat, with Gowari's aid, to eliminate Sushmita and her child. Further probe continues, officials said.
