A tribal protest in Jainoor town, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad District, escalated into violence on Wednesday over an auto-rickshaw driver's alleged attempt to rape and murder a tribal woman, necessitating curfew imposition and internet bans.
District authorities responded with prohibitory orders under 163 BNSS, and additional police forces, including the Rapid Action Force, have been deployed to restore order. A senior police official confirmed the situation is now under control.
The protest, which followed a bandh call by tribal organizations, attracted a large turnout of tribals. Tensions escalated into communal conflict with stone-pelting and arson, targeting properties of another community. Police are now conducting investigations to identify and prosecute those responsible for the violence.
