A schoolgirl in Lohaghat town was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified men on her way to school on Wednesday and was found in a distraught state hours later, sparking suspicions of rape.
Champawat Superintendent of Police Ajay Ganpati reported that the girl, in a state of shock, is unable to speak and is undergoing medical examination. A case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered against unidentified individuals.
Three investigation teams have been formed to inspect the crime scene, review CCTV footage, and question locals. Deputy Superintendent of Police Vandana Verma is leading the probe, with searches of vehicles on all routes to Lohaghat. The incident has incited community outrage, leading to a gherao of the police station, as residents demand swift arrests.
