Janata Dal (United) leader K C Tyagi condemned cow vigilantes on Wednesday amid widespread outrage over recent killings in Haryana. He called their actions unconstitutional and stated that no 'political outfit' should perform police duties.
Labeling the acts as 'goondadardi' (thuggery), Tyagi emphasized that no one should take the law into their own hands. He referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 2019 remarks, which similarly denounced cow vigilantism for violence under the guise of cow protection.
Tyagi's comments came in response to the fatal shooting of Aryan Mishra (19) by cow vigilantes during a car chase in Faridabad. Another migrant worker, Sabir Malik, was also killed by cow vigilantes in Haryana's Charkhi Dadri recently. Tyagi, who recently stepped down as the party's spokesperson but remains its political advisor, reiterated that any grievances should be reported to the police.
