A woman has alleged sexual assault by the driver and helper of a private ambulance she hired to transport her terminally ill husband, police reported on Wednesday. The accused allegedly disconnected the oxygen support of her husband, leading to his death.
The incident occurred on August 30 while returning from a hospital in Lucknow due to financial constraints, necessitating a private ambulance. The woman claimed that when she resisted their advances, the ambulance was stopped in Basti district, approximately 150 kilometers away, and she, her brother, and her husband were forcibly removed. Local police arranged for another ambulance to carry her husband to Gorakhpur Medical College, where he was declared dead.
Having returned to Lucknow, the woman filed a police complaint at Ghazipur Police Station. "We have lodged a case regarding the incident based on the woman's complaint, and our teams are actively working to arrest the accused," said Jitendra Kumar Dubey, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) of Lucknow.
