Ex-Police Officer Faces Court Over 17 Sexual Offences

Former British police officer Mark Tyrrell appeared in a London court on Wednesday, facing 17 sexual offence charges, including two counts of rape. The accusations involve an inappropriate relationship with a woman he met while on duty.

Tyrrell, 55, is also charged with three counts of perverting the course of justice. Allegations include deleting messages, lying to police, and coercing the alleged victim to provide a false account. Additionally, Tyrrell faces a charge of misconduct in public office.

Tyrrell formerly served in the Met's Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command. This unit has been linked to other serious crimes, including those committed by Wayne Couzens and David Carrick. Tyrrell will next appear at Southwark Crown Court on October 2. The charges cover incidents from 2017 to 2023.
