A former Philippine mayor accused of connections to Chinese criminal syndicates has been apprehended in Indonesia, according to a statement from Manila's justice ministry on Wednesday.

Alice Guo, known in China as Guo Hua Ping, faces charges for avoiding a congressional investigation into her alleged criminal activities. She denies these charges and asserts she is a natural-born Philippine citizen who is the target of malicious accusations.

The Philippines' Justice Department confirmed that Guo is currently in the custody of the Indonesian Police at Jatanras Mabes Polri, as verified by Philippine immigration officials.
