Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa on Tuesday called for the formation of a committee within the Punjab Assembly to investigate the controversial interviews conducted with jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
During the second day of the three-day assembly session, Bajwa also demanded that Special Director General of Police Prabodh Kumar undertake a probe into the matter. The interviews, which were aired by a private news channel, took place while Bishnoi was under Punjab Police custody and another in Rajasthan last year, according to a report by the Special Investigation Team headed by Prabodh Kumar.
Bajwa insisted that a committee similar to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) be formed to investigate the police officers' involvement in facilitating these interviews and to ensure the erring officers are held accountable.
