China's Social Media Influence: Unveiling 'Spamouflage'

A recent investigation by intelligence firm Graphika exposes a Chinese social media influence operation, dubbed 'Spamouflage' or 'Dragonbridge,' which is impersonating U.S. voters and discrediting U.S. politicians ahead of the upcoming presidential election on Nov. 5.

The 'Spamouflage' campaign, which mixes spam with targeted propaganda, has been active since 2017 but has intensified its activities as the election approaches. According to experts, the operation has utilized thousands of accounts across over 50 websites, forums, and social media platforms.

Graphika's research team, led by Jack Stubbs, notes that 'Spamouflage' has evolved in its tactics, showing more aggressive and advanced deceptive behaviors. The operation does not support a specific political faction but aims to deepen societal and governmental criticisms within the U.S.
