On Monday, Turkey carried out significant air strikes targeting 20 locations tied to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in northern Iraq, according to a statement from the Turkish Defence Ministry. The ministry detailed that several militants were 'neutralized,' a term often implying they were killed during the attacks.
The operations were conducted across several PKK bases in northern Iraq, including Asos, Gara, Hakurk, Metina, Qandil, and Zap, the ministry said in a statement on social media platform X. The attacks targeted various facilities such as caves, shelters, bunkers, depots, and other infrastructure affiliated with the PKK.
The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization not only by Turkey but also by the United States and the European Union, adding international dimensions to the domestic conflict.
