Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has temporarily halted the recruitment drive for excise constables after several candidates died during physical tests. The recruitment process has been suspended for three days, and a committee of health experts is investigating the cause of the deaths.
The Chief Minister described the deaths as 'sad and heartbreaking' and announced an immediate review of rules set by the previous government. Soren stated that the physical tests will not take place after 9 am, ensuring measures are taken to prevent further incidents.
According to sources, the BJP claimed 15 candidates have died, while the police reported 12 deaths, and Health Minister Banna Gupta cited four. The tests, which began on August 22 at seven centers across six districts, were initially scheduled to continue until September 9.
