In a significant development, a court in Odisha's Ganjam district on Monday sentenced five individuals to life imprisonment for the brutal killing of four people two years ago.

Additional District Judge Prabir Kumar Choudhury found Milan Kumar Swain (29), Santosh Kumar Swain (27), Bahan Behera (27), Chitrasen Sethi (23), and Sadhu alias Amiya Kumar Swain (40) guilty. They were convicted for beating to death three brothers, Raja Swain (28), Sambhu Swain (25), Pandav Swain (23), and their cousin Chandan (16), in Pitala Chhaka.

The court examined statements from 26 witnesses and reviewed medical reports and other documents. The clash reportedly started after one of the accused made objectionable remarks about a woman. While five were sentenced to life, a teenager's trial continues in juvenile court.
