Bathroom fittings were reportedly stolen from the official residence of Apna Dal (S) MLA Vinay Verma in the upscale Butler Palace colony of Hazratganj, sparking concerns over residential security in the area.
The incident was discovered on August 31 when Verma's aide, Anurag Mishra, went to clean the house and found a broken courtyard door. Missing washbasins and bathroom taps confirmed suspicions of theft. Verma lodged a complaint, leading to an FIR against unknown individuals under sections 305 (theft) and 331 (3) (house-trespass or housebreaking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Verma, who is currently not residing in the house due to ongoing renovations, expressed alarm about the security situation, pointing out that had he or his family been there, they could have faced an attack. ''If thefts are occurring even in a posh colony where an MLA resides, it raises serious questions about the area's law and order,'' Verma stated. Apna Dal (S) is a political ally of the ruling BJP in the state.
