A 2.5-year-old girl was tragically killed, and a 70-year-old woman sustained injuries in separate wolf attacks within Mahsi division, officials reported on Monday.

The first attack occurred on Sunday night in Garethi Gurudutt Singh village when Anjali, a toddler, was taken by a wolf. Her mutilated body was later found a kilometer away, with the wolf having devoured both her hands.

District Magistrate Monika Rani confirmed that this incident marks the eighth fatal wolf attack since mid-July, with seven children and one adult among the victims. In another event, Kamala Devi from Mauja Kotiya village was attacked within her home on Monday morning, now hospitalized with serious injuries but in stable condition.

The administration is actively attempting to capture the wolves. Despite having caught four, officials face challenges as the predators continue to target new villages rapidly.

Authorities are urging villagers to sleep with doors closed or on rooftops and to stay vigilant. Rani noted ongoing efforts to accurately assess the number of attacking wolves. Forest department investigations are underway to determine this number.

Furthermore, Superintendent of Police Vrinda Shukla and DM Rani have visited the affected families and assured proper medical care for the injured.
