Ukrainian forces shelled Russia's southern Belgorod region on Sunday, injuring 11 people, including two children who suffered severe injuries, according to regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.

Using the Telegram messaging app, Gladkov disclosed that the two boys are undergoing surgery for significant wounds, including extensive damage to both legs. Medical professionals are considering transferring them to Moscow for advanced treatment.

Before emergency services arrived, residents provided first aid, protecting the injured from falling shrapnel. The attack resulted in damage to 22 apartments, eight private homes, and over 20 vehicles. Reuters could not independently verify these accounts, and Ukrainian officials have not commented on the incident. Belgorod and nearby districts have frequently been subjected to shelling and other attacks by Ukrainian forces, who recently launched an incursion into the adjacent Kursk region, claiming to have occupied dozens of settlements.
