The death toll from the Ganjam hooch tragedy has increased to four, with a 60-year-old man named Baya Sethi passing away at MKCG Medical College Hospital. He was one of many victims who consumed spurious liquor.

On the previous day, Lakshman Behera succumbed to the same fate. Two other individuals, Juru Behera and Loknath Behera, had also died. At least 15 people from the Jenapur and Karabalua areas were admitted to the hospital on August 19 after ingesting potentially tainted country-made liquor from a vendor in Maundapur village.

In response, police and excise officials launched a crackdown on illegal liquor manufacturing units. They have seized and destroyed large quantities of illicit liquor and have arrested 16 people connected to the tragedy. The raids will continue to prevent further incidents.
